The social worker is part of the therapeutic support team at Jan Kriel School. She is the liaison between school, hostel and parents. She investigates and handles problem situations like irregular school attendance, neglect and alleged ill-treatment as identified by members of the staff. More and more learners with serious behaviour problems are referred to our school and are handled by the support team. All possible resources are investigated and used in order to help the learner and his parent(s). The learners receive counseling.
The social worker handles applications for subsidies regarding school- / hostel fees. She makes a recommendation after a thorough investigation of the financial- and domestic circumstances of the applicant. She gives continuous support to needy learners and parents. She also offers referrals to other sources of aid in the community.
Parental guidance and support are given to parents by means of visits at home.
An aftercare service is available for ex-students. This include, among others, support and guidance with regard to further education and job placement. |
